The concept of time has intrigued artists and scientists alike. Exploring this concept is the focus of the Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) event “Exploding Canons: All the Time in the World” scheduled for Friday, Jan. 25, at the McColl Center for Visual Art.
Faculty and staff members can attend a free swing dance class from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Cone University Center Lucas Room. A dance will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. that night in the Lucas Room for those who want to practice their moves; admission is free.

Johan Enslin, director of the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC), has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was recognized for his contributions to the integration of renewable energy into power networks and using power electronics.

UNC Charlotte’s Storrs Gallery will host an exhibition of art proposed for Charlotte Area Transit System’s Blue Line light rail extension starting Monday, Jan. 14.
This display, which will be exhibited through Thursday, Feb. 28, will be the first opportunity for the public to view the proposed works. In 2009, 16 artists were selected to integrate art into the light rail system.
A new face in the Chancellor’s Office arrives Monday, Jan. 14. Alan Shoho will spend the spring semester on campus as part of a fellowship experience through the American Council on Education (ACE). As an ACE Fellow, he will be mentored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Provost Joan Lorden, and he will be an active participant in many high-level administrative functions of the University.
As 2013 gets under way, 10 UNC Charlotte alumni were sworn into offices at the national and state level. They join hundreds of alums in public service at the local level across North Carolina and in other states.
During 2012, the campus had a reduction in the number of total reported workplace incidents/injuries, according to the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). In an effort to continue this trend for 2013, the office has compiled a number of injury-related facts and prevention resources.
