Board Basics:

UNC Charlotte’s Board of Trustees is comprised of 13 members and is the University’s official governing body.

Eight members are elected to four-year terms by the UNC Board of Governors; four are appointed by the governor. The current student body president functions as a voting ex-officio member.

Karen Popp serves as chair of the board. Joe Price is vice chair and Michael Wilson is secretary.

Newest Members:

In July, Gov. Pat McCrory appointed Susan DeVore and Fred Klein each to a four-year term beginning immediately.

DeVore, a prominent health care executive with Premier Inc., graduated from UNC Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She previously served on UNC Charlotte’s College of Health and Human Services’s health care management advisory board. She earned a master’s degree in management from McGill University.

Developer Klein is senior managing partner at Childress Klein Properties, one of the Southeast’s largest real estate firms. He’s a member of UNC Charlotte’s Foundation Board and co-chaired a $4.4 million campaign for the Belk College of Business’s Center for Real Estate. Klein graduated from Lehigh University and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

“Our Board of Trustees has always provided strong leadership, and UNC Charlotte is fortunate to attract individuals who are active and connected to the University and the community,” said Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. “Susan and Fred are both accomplished leaders in their respective industries, and my leadership team is looking forward to working with them on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
