Brick by Brick: Campus Infrastructure Report

While summer generally brings a slower and easier pace, UNC Charlotte is hopping. By the first Monday following spring commencement in May, campus was abuzz (literally) with construction. You can check out the complete project listing and latest photos; several highlights are below.

Light rail construction

Light rail continues to progress through campus. We’ll tell you the history, path and how Blue Line Extension will transform UNC Charlotte and the city.  Last week, CATS celebrated placement of the last campus girder, a symbolic move toward bridging UNC Charlotte and Uptown.

New construction includes Levine Hall (top right), the Vicki and Gene Johnson Marching Band Center. Renovations currently are under way for Holshouser Hall (top left), Oak Hall and Belk Gym.

New traffic pattern

To ease traffic around campus, there are a number of improvements in the works, including the widening of Alumni Way, installation of a stoplight at the South Entrance (intersection of University City and Cameron boulevards) and Phillips Road is moving — pictured above.

First Ward Park

Work continues on the First Ward Park adjacent to UNC Charlotte Center City. We certainly don’t mind this charming community park being right outside our front doors; in fact, we love it.
