The half-day event features several keynote speakers, a panel discussion and a networking reception for students, academics, corporate professionals and leaders from Charlotte nonprofits.

‘Intelligent Lives’ - a film by Dan Habib

‘Intelligent Lives’ Film Screenings

Tuesday, March 26 - 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m., Cone University Center

“Intelligent Lives,” a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib, makes its Charlotte premier at Cone University Center. The film stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities—Micah, Naieer and Naomie. They challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college and the workforce. Academy Award-winning actor and narrator Chris Cooper contextualizes the lives of these central characters through the emotional story of his son, Jesse.

Habib will present the documentary during three screenings. The event is free and open to the public; registration is required for the 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. showings.

Personally Speaking: A Conversation with Author Bryn Chancellor

Tuesday, March 26 - 6:30 p.m., UNC Charlotte Center City

Out for a hike one scorching afternoon in Sycamore, Arizona, a newcomer to town stumbles across what appears to be human remains embedded in the wall of a dry, desert ravine. Sycamore’s longtime residents fear the bones may belong to Jess Winters, a teenage girl who disappeared suddenly some 18 years earlier.

In 2017, “Sycamore’’ was named one of Oprah Winfrey’s “O’s Top 20 Books to Read This Summer” and Amazon picked it as one of “100 books of 2017.”

Join the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association for the much-anticipated spring 2019 Fireside Chat with Chancellor’s Professor Steven G. Rogelberg, author of  “The Surprising Science of Meetings,” the first book read this year by the UNC Charlotte Alumni Digital Book Club. In his book, named the number one leadership book to watch in 2019 by The Washington Post, Rogelberg shares the proven practices and techniques that help managers and employees enhance the quality of their meetings. Rogelberg will present a short overview of the book and discuss his writing process. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A.

This event is free, but registration is required by March 25.
