Get Your Geek On – North Carolina's Annual Science Festival Gears Up

Now in its fifth year, the North Carolina Science Festival has become a spring tradition, and UNC Charlotte is again ramping up its participation. In addition to the Science and Technology Expo, UNC Charlotte is also offering an activity series, science and society panel series, two award-winning science documentary films and a star party.

The always-popular Expo will remain the University’s grand finale, closing out the festival on Sunday, April 26, 12– 4 p.m., with a multitude of family-friendly activities, including robotics, rocketry, virtual people, lab experiments, explosive chemistry, exotic plants, fire engines, race cars, boats and drones.

Free and open to the public, the Expo is for the science-curious of all ages, featuring more than 100 hands-on activities and presentations in chemistry, physics, geology, computer science, engineering and biology, developed by University personnel and a host of industry and community organizations.

The UNC Charlotte Observatory also will offer a night of expertly guided stargazing, as it hosts its annual Star Party on Friday, April 24, at 8 p.m. The event is free, but advance registration is required.

Based on overwhelming popularity, this year UNC Charlotte has expanded the number of festival events, with emphasis on participatory activities, including a Lego Robotics workshop, a musical demonstration, art exhibitions, research symposiums, lectures and films.
