Legislative Update

Congratulations to Rep. Bill Brawley '78 for being named a recipient of the Charlotte Chamber’s 2018 Regional Legislator of the Year Award. Brawley was recognized, along with this year’s other Economic Growth Award recipients, at a special awards ceremony on Sept. 6.

A proud 49er, who along with Rep. Jason Saine ’95 successfully led the fight opposing cuts to UNC Charlotte’s $90 million science building, Brawley has introduced and voted for legislation in the best interest of his community.

As senior finance co-chair for the North Carolina House of Representatives, Brawley is tasked with guiding tax policy through the House, which includes extensive deliberations not only with colleagues in the House but facilitating negotiations with the North Carolina Senate.

Tax policy has a significant impact in the Charlotte region as the city seeks to attract and retain businesses, particularly in regard to personal and corporate income taxes. The Charlotte Chamber recognized Brawley for his efforts to keep tax rates competitive.

The Charlotte Chamber’s Economic Growth Awards celebrate individuals and organizations that play a significant role in the economic growth of the Charlotte region.

Other award recipients include NN Inc., Sunlight Financial, Waddell Language Academy, EY, Cognizant, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont and Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
