Masquerading for a Good Cause: The Green Tie Gala

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the Alumni Association puts a twist on its annual fundraiser benefiting the Dr. Gregory Davis Scholarship Fund. This year’s Green Tie Gala promises even more merriment, complete with a masquerade theme, live music, dancing, street performers, mystery boxes and of course, amazing food and drink.

The Davis Scholarship Fund annually awards multiple needs-based scholarships to deserving students to help them realize their aspiration of obtaining a quality education.

A member of the UNC Charlotte Class of 1976, Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in religious studies. He completed a master’s degree in divinity from Duke University and a doctorate in religious studies from the Union Institute.

During Davis’s career, he was a full-time lecturer in UNC Charlotte’s Afro-American Studies Department (now the Department of Africana Studies) and also director of student support services, where he provided tutoring and mentorship to first generation, low income and disabled students.

The Davis Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Alumni Board of Directors in recognition of Davis’s years of service to the University. The Green Tie Gala is the Alumni Association’s signature event assisting with fundraising efforts.
