Progressive Partnership

UNC Charlotte’s Urban Institute is at it again, this time in a partnership crossing numerous municipal lines.

The Web-based Quality of Life Explorer — created with the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville – provides remarkable amounts of data and seamless access to information and resources. It’s an online tool used to examine the social, housing, economic, environmental and safety conditions in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Mayor Clodfelter is a fan: “At the City of Charlotte, we’ve used the Quality of Life Explorer to help understand the dynamics of local neighborhoods and determine service delivery strategies. It’s our hope residents use the tool to explore neighborhood assets, identify priorities and connect to resources.”

The tool can be used by residents, businesses, service providers, government agencies, real estate agents, universities and others to learn more about local neighborhoods for developing programs and services for the future.

The mayor isn’t the only one impressed. Mecklenburg County Manager Diorio says it greatly assists with wide-ranging community planning: “The Quality of Life Explorer gives everyone – policymakers, government staff, neighborhood and business leaders and other engaged residents – a common foundation to identify, understand and take action on issues that impact us now and in the future.”
