He’s in good company. Chancellor Philip L. Dubois was presented the 2016 World Citizen Award, joining previous honorees such as Charlie Rose, Erskine and Crandall Bowles and Hugh McColl Jr.
Given by the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, the award recognizes accomplishments of international significance and contributions to the city, region and international community.
Dubois has been integral to creating and sustaining partnerships and research programs abroad. The most substantial, a decades-long relationship with Kingston University, which bestowed an honorary degree upon the chancellor in 2014 for his globalization efforts.
Among the most memorable moments of the evening were remarks from UNC system president Erskine Bowles, a close friend and former colleague of the chancellor’s.
"For it is a fact, that there is no world class city that does not also have a world class university. UNC Charlotte is today truly a world class university.
It has been my privilege to work with university leaders around the globe, but I can unequivocally state that Phil Dubois is without question the finest administrator I have known. His instinctive commitment to diversity, to fostering a broad community of backgrounds and cultures, is precisely what we need in our leaders, particularly today.”
