Ronald “Sam” Simono, founding director of the UNC Charlotte Counseling Center — now the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) — advanced student mental health care through professional practice and as a professor in the Department of Psychology for 37 years, until his retirement in 2003. He died Dec. 6 at age 84.

Mitigation & Exit Testing
Due to exams and commencement, students, faculty and staff are not required to participate in mitigation testing this week, Dec. 12-17. Please note that exit testing for winter break is being offered through Thursday, Dec. 16. Registration is available here using the mitigation testing form. All employees and students, regardless of vaccination status, are welcome to take part in this free exit testing.

- SurveyShare will be decommissioned June 1, 2022, now that the University utilizes Qualtrics and Google Forms for enterprise survey tool needs. If you have SurveyShare results and/or unpublished survey questions that you wish to save, please follow the directions in this FAQ.
- Canvas has released "New Quizzes," an extensive update to the Classic Quizzes functionality that faculty currently use. New Quizzes will be available beginning Tuesday, Dec. 21, so faculty can become familiar and begin using the new tool before Canvas permanently switches to New Quizzes by the end of December 2022. See enhancement details and a checklist for faculty and FAQs.
- As a reminder, health insurance premiums are deducted a month in advance and NCFlex premiums are deducted in the month of coverage. If you elected to receive health or NCFlex benefits during this year’s open enrollment, reference the premium schedule for the 2022 plan year.
YOUR DAILY NEED TO KNOW: STUDENTS
- Thursday, Dec. 16, is the last day to return textbooks rented from Barnes & Noble Charlotte.
- For students with fall block meal plans, the deadline to use meal swipes is Thursday, Dec. 16. Remaining Declining Balance funds roll over for use through Aug. 10, 2022.
- “Study Dayz” continues this week with free donuts, coffee and hot chocolate in the Popp Martin Student Union Rotunda from 8:30 to 10 a.m. through Thursday, Dec. 16. Massage chairs also are available.

- 12/15: Prospective MBA students can learn more about UNC Charlotte's nationally ranked part-time MBA program in a virtual information session from noon to 1 p.m. Belk College staff will present an overview of the MBA program, followed by a Q&A period. An overview of the application process, financial information and GMAT/GRE information, among other topics, will be discussed to help you determine if UNC Charlotte’s MBA meets your individual needs and goals.
