University establishes three new endowed professorships, thanks to $5.8 million in gifts
Three recent gifts to the University, totaling $5.8 million, will support the creation of three new professorships at UNC Charlotte, continuing to advance the University’s teaching and research missions by recruiting, nurturing and retaining world-class, diverse faculty, staff and students.

Join CAPS for a one-hour workshop on Friday, Jan. 28, focused on learning warning signs of mental health concerns, strategies to support other students and ways to refer to campus resources when appropriate.

Assistant professor of Japanese wins national award for translation of acclaimed book: For his translation of Hiroko Oyamada’s novella “The Hole,” UNC Charlotte assistant professor of Japanese David Boyd has won a coveted national prize. “The Hole” has been featured in national media, including The New York Times, The Seattle Times, The Japan Times and The Boston Globe, and has won accolades from reviewers and readers.
MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
Mariya Munir, professor of civil and environmental engineering, discussed on Fox City News the benefits of wastewater testing in controlling the spread of COVID-19.
Doug Shoemaker, director of research and outreach, Center for Applied Information Science, provided perspective in the Charlotte Observer about the continuing loss of Charlotte’s prized tree canopy due to growth and development.

- 1/21: The School of Architecture's 50th anniversary lecture series presents Harvard architecture professor K. Michael Hays.
- 1/25: The office of Identity, Equity, and Engagement invites the UNC Charlotte and Charlotte community to join the 2022 Annual MLK program with keynote speaker, Dorothy Gilliam. Gilliam was the first Black woman journalist for the Washington Post.
- 1/25: The Department of Music presents “The Music of Dave Brubeck” with pianist John Salmon.
