Understanding the war in Ukraine
In the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a “special military operation” in neighboring Ukraine, becoming the most serious and devastating conflict in Europe since World War II. Professor of History Steven Sabol, an expert in Russian history and Soviet and Post-Soviet nationalities policy, explains what led to this conflict and what may come next for the two countries.

As a reminder, all students and employees who are not up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations are required to complete a COVID-19 test this week, March 14-18. The requirement includes on-campus residential students. You may be tested on campus by registering using the mitigation testing form.

- Brad Yeckley, assistant director of financial literacy at UNC Charlotte, is offering a free, three-part webinar series via Zoom to graduate students in the Cato College of Education.
- Join “Conversations That Matter: Ukraine-Russia,” a virtual space for Charlotte students to gather and discuss the personal impact of the war in Ukraine Friday, March 18, at noon. Register for the Zoom link.

Dance professor receives grant for African-Brazilian festival: Assistant Professor of Dance Tamara Williams has received a 2022 Cultural Vision Grant from the Arts & Science Council to produce an African-Brazilian arts festival in Charlotte.

In the free Personally Speaking talk, UNC Charlotte expert Scott Hippensteel will reveal how geological traits have influenced military successes and failures throughout history.
