A Celebration of Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber and the Future of UNC Charlotte
Today marks the University’s “Shaping What’s Next” celebration, officially marking Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber’s arrival as UNC Charlotte’s fifth chancellor and celebrating all that is ahead for Niner Nation. A ceremony, delayed for nearly two years by COVID-19, will be held at 11 a.m. today on the plaza in front of the Popp Martin Student Union.
In honor of the impact Chancellor Gaber has already had on our University, today’s special edition of Niner Insider features a guest letter from 2021-22 Student Body President Dick Beekman and a look back on her first 21 months as a Niner.
Chancellor Gaber,
While today marks the official celebration of your installation, the work you have done for our University and our students in nearly two years since your arrival is nothing short of incredible.
Since our first encounter — a call you initiated with members of student government — I have been impressed with your dedication to our students. Upon your arrival, you quickly established trust and mutual respect with our student body through your collaboration, transparency and ability to communicate.
I admire the way you take a genuine interest in being present on campus. The way you take the time to meet with students, personally respond to questions or concerns and visit with student organizations underscores the value you place on us as students and contributing members of our campus community.
As I move ahead with my academic and professional careers, I will continue to value you not only as a mentor but as a friend. You are more than an administrator. You are more than a chancellor. You are someone who cares deeply about the people in your life.
UNC Charlotte is lucky to have you and you are truly the right leader at the right time for this university. I look forward to sharing my successes with you and hearing about how you shape what’s next at UNC Charlotte.
