Education professor awarded $1 million NSF Grant for pioneering research supporting gifted Black girls
Brittany Anderson, assistant professor of urban education in the Cato College of Education, received a $1,062,034 grant from the National Science Foundation for her pioneering research on gifted Black girls with science, technology, engineering and math talent in elementary schools across the country.

- Update: Due to current weather conditions, the repainting of pedestrian crosswalks and bike lanes are on hold. The new completion date is Thursday, June 16.

- UNC Charlotte is encouraging employees to receive their booster with an additional eight hours of paid leave. Eligible employees who receive their first booster on or before Aug. 31, 2022, will receive the leave. More information can be found on the COVID-19 HR Information website.
- 49er Mart users are invited to the 49er Mart Virtual Forum Thursday, June 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. Topics will include Contracts+ update, TSM updates, ordering in the new year, searching for items and best practices, changing the purchase order owner, deleting draft carts and draft receipts. There will be time for questions at the end of the forum. Registration is encouraged on the Learning and Development Portal, and more information can be found on the 49er Mart message board.
- UNC Charlotte electronic systems and services, including Banner Self-Service and NinerNET password management services, will be offline for planned maintenance Saturday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to noon.
- OneIT will perform extended maintenance from 5 p.m., Friday, July 1, through 9 a.m., Saturday, July 2. During this time, building switches, routers and storage will be upgraded. This work should not impact customers. OneIT will conduct disaster recovery testing Friday, July 1, from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Users will be unable to access the main website as well as most campus web services and systems including my.charlotte.edu, Canvas, Gmail, GCal, Google Drive, the VPN and Zoom. Phone services will not be affected.

- Two UNC Charlotte students named 2022 Marian Drane Graham Scholars: Avangelyne “Angel” Padilla and Jeremiah Williams have been named 2022 Marian Drane Graham Scholars by the UNC System. They will join two other scholars from the UNC System for an eight-week immersive and experiential summer program, designed to help them develop leadership skills and gain a better understanding of key issues facing public higher education.
- CoA+A receives national Scholastics Award for Excellence: The College of Arts + Architecture has received the 2022 Dick Robinson Award for Excellence in the Field as the Mid-Carolina Regional Art Affiliate of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
Economics professor John Connaughton discussed the state of the economy and the issue of inflation on WFAE Charlotte Talks.
Steven Rogelberg, professor of Organizational Science, Management and Psychology, testified in a congressional hearing about issues related to how congresspeople can lead in a challenging organizational structure.

- 6/15: Graduate Admissions Information Session: This session is for prospective graduate students who need to start an application and those with one in progress. It covers admission and standardized test requirements, application process, funding opportunities and financial aid. Select program representatives will be available to meet with participants.
