University researchers partner with Gaston County health officials on groundwater quality project

UNC Charlotte researchers and the Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services have created the Gaston Water Map, a website with tools that map known groundwater quality in the county.

    YOUR DAILY NEED TO KNOW: FACULTY & STAFF

    • The policy allowing students to work 29 hours per week during the academic year does not apply to international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa. Exceeding 20 hours a week of on-campus employment during fall or spring semesters has serious immigration consequences such as termination of the SEVIS record and possible deportation.     • In accordance with the planned end of the declared public health emergency for COVID-19 this month, several COVID-19 work and leave provisions will end. Paid Administrative Leave for quarantine and isolation orders and the COVID-19 Shared Leave Bank will end Monday, Aug. 15. Paid work time for receiving your COVID-19 vaccine or booster and Paid Administrative Leave for adverse vaccine reactions will end Wednesday, Aug. 31. More information is available on the COVID-19 HR information website.
    • The online workshop “Quick Start Your Semester Using a Canvas Template” will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15. It is designed for instructors who need to build their Canvas course quickly and efficiently. Explore the Charlotte Canvas fall template, learn to set the home page and practice adding content and resources — including a syllabus template— to your Canvas course. 
    • 49er Mart users are invited to attend the 49er Mart Virtual Forum from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Topics include establishing your email approval code and notification preferences and updating your user profile. Registration is encouraged on the Learning and Development Portal and more information can be found on the 49er Mart message board.

    YOUR DAILY NEED TO KNOW: STUDENTS 

    • For a limited time, now until Sept. 9, students can earn bonus meals for use in Crown Commons and SoVi by depositing a minimum of $350 in their Optional Dining Account. Bonus meals are added to the student's account the Monday following the qualifying deposit.

    Rowan named NCAA Woman of the Year nominee

    Sydney Rowan from Charlotte volleyball has been selected as a NCAA Woman of the Year nominee becoming just one of less than 600 student-athletes nationwide to be nominated for this prestigious award. The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
