- Come to the Kendra Scott pop-up event at Barnes & Noble Charlotte, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14. Green Niner Nation pieces designed by Julie Parlier and pieces from the store’s fall collection will be available; 20% of proceeds will be donated to the Ellis Reed Parlier Scholarship Fund.
- A new law recently went into effect in North Carolina that requires UNC System institutions to remain neutral on political controversies.
- Benefits-eligible employees are encouraged to take time this weekend to review their benefit options for the 2024 plan year. The open enrollment period ends Friday, Oct. 27. When you are ready to take action, log onto both the eBenefits and the UNC System Benefits platforms using your NinerNET credentials to make your elections.
- Explore cultural dimensions and learn to enhance classroom learning experiences to promote cultural awareness by attending this CTL workshop from the Office of International Programs at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17.
- Question, Persuade, Refer is a 90-minute suicide prevention training that teaches individuals how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, including verbal, behavioral and situational clues. The next training for faculty and staff is 10:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Oct. 19.
- Education alumnus Chris Myers was named Cabarrus County Schools Principal of the Year.
- The Bistro in the Popp Martin Student Union is now offering lunch specials three days a week.

- Join the Student Health Center for Health Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. This one-day event will provide health education information and highlight campus and community resources that support mental and physical health.
- The third week of October is recognized as National College Alcohol Awareness Week to bring attention to issues posed by excessive drinking among college students. Join the Center for Wellness Promotion next week as they bring awareness to these issues on our campus.

Susana Cisneros, a senior lecturer in the Department of Languages and Culture Studies, watches Charlotte wake up and go to sleep. She collaborated with students on the project “More than a Train Ride” to ensure Spanish-speaking people could enjoy Charlotte and ride the light rail in Spanish by creating a website with a detailed guide.
