Annual Spring Career Expo scheduled, Career Center to host health care careers event

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

The University Career Center will host its annual Spring Career Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 5, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

This event is open to UNC Charlotte students of all majors and class levels, as well as alumni.  Recruiters will seek upcoming graduates for full-time positions, internships and co-ops and graduate school admissions. More than 100 organizations have registered to date, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Schaeffler Group USA Inc., Citco Technology Management, Citizen Schools, Fastenal First Investors Corporation, N.C. Department of Revenue, ON24, Peace Corps, SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department, Stealth Components Inc., Target, the Shaw Group, UNC Charlotte Graduate School, Vanguard, Wells Fargo and Co. and Zenmonics.  An updated list of registered organizations is available online.

Employers continue to express strong interest in University Career Center offerings throughout 2012-13.  Job postings, career fair attendance and on-campus interviews all increased during fall 2012, which is consistent with national trends suggesting continued improvement in the job market for new college graduates.  According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) Job Outlook 2013, employers plan to hire 13 percent more new college graduates this year than in 2011-12.

Students interested in a career in health care will have the opportunity to meet representatives from a variety of health care graduate and professional schools when the N.C. Health Career Expo Tour visits UNC Charlotte.  This meet-and-greet event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 12, in the Cone University Center.  Allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, chiropractic and other specialties will be in attendance to speak with students about the application and interview process for these programs.  An updated list of registered organizations by specialty will be available soon at the University Career Center’s website.

Faculty members are asked to announce these events to their classes and invited to attend to make connections with employer and graduate school representatives.  Faculty members also are encouraged to promote the Washington Center Internship and Study Scholarship Program to students of all majors who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in fall 2013. Ten $6,000 scholarships, sponsored by UNC Charlotte and the City of Charlotte, are available for Washington, D.C., internships through the Washington Center.  More details are available at the University Career Center’s website; the deadline to apply is April 15.

Career Expo is open only to UNC Charlotte students and alumni, while the N.C. Health Career Expo Tour is open to students from all area colleges and universities. Students should dress professionally in business attire and bring resumes for recruiters.  Direct questions about Career Expo and the N.C. Health Career Expo Tour to Brooke Brown and questions about the Washington Center Internship and Study Scholarship Program to Denise Dwight Smith.
