Niner Nation launches the 2021-22 academic year — in person, with high hopes
Tuesday, August 24, 2021

The 2021-22 academic year is officially underway — in person — with move-in complete, the start of classes, anticipation of football season and excitement about the University’s upcoming 75th anniversary celebration. It’s been an eventful and exciting few days.

Make it a great year, Niners!

Home Sweet HomeMove in

Students are thrilled to be on campus — meeting roommates and seeing friends face-to-face after a year of Zoom connections. They moved into residence halls and apartments this past weekend, ready to call “Charlotte” home, and many were greeted personally by Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kevin Bailey.

RecFest: Something for everyone

As they settled in, Niners explored recreation options, learned about campus partners and sampled local cuisine at RecFest held at UREC.

Chancellor Gaber welcomes Niners home

Student Convocation

Chancellor Gabor welcomed new students to Niner Nation at New Student Convocation on Sunday at Jerry Richardson Stadium and kicked off the first day of classes on Monday with a “welcome back message” to students, faculty and staff. She reminded everyone of the University’s policy for mask wearing indoors, and strongly encourages them for outdoor use, too, when distancing isn’t possible. Despite the University’s impressive vaccine rate of 81% for faculty and staff and 67% for students, she reminds Niners that the pandemic is not yet “in the rearview mirror.”

Taking responsibility for one another

All of Niner Nation is working hard — as the chancellor announced in her message — to "keep one another safe and healthy and our University moving forward."

Sweets and Swag

Sweets and swag for students

During the first week of classes, University Communications gave away sweets and swag on campus to celebrate the launch of the new brand. We now have thousands of students, faculty and staff showing off the new brand with coffee mugs, sunglasses, drawstring bags, t-shirts, water bottles, and phone popsockets, while enjoying green and gold popcorn, green cotton candy and other treats!

Big brand on campus
