Research funding at UNC Charlotte reached an all-time high in 2020-21, supporting University researchers’ efforts to address some of society’s greatest challenges, among them keeping communities healthy, mitigating cybersecurity threats and enhancing the resilience of the power grid.

Since the emergence last summer of the COVID-19 delta variant, UNC Charlotte has partnered with the Mecklenburg County Health Department to provide genome sequencing to help health officials determine where in the county the coronavirus and its variants are present.

Over the past year, a dedicated group of UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and administrators collaborated to study the University’s potential to become a top-tier research university.

Undergraduate students at Charlotte who participate in research under the guidance of faculty mentors now have the opportunity to publish and share broadly the outcomes of their work and collaborative experiences.

On Oct. 28, UNC Charlotte recognized members of the faculty and staff for their new and ongoing achievements in research at the 2021 Niner Research Reception.

Malcolm Butler will join UNC Charlotte’s Cato College of Education as dean in January 2022.

At UNC Charlotte, the Office of Undergraduate Research Summer Research Scholar Program matches more than 100 qualified rising sophomores, juniors and seniors annually with paid summer research opportunities led by faculty researchers from disciplines across the University.

Cortni Schenker, an employee with UNC Charlotte’s Office of OneIT, died Friday, Aug. 20. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Rd. Monroe, North Carolina.Schenker, a graduate of Appalachian State University, was an IT Service Desk analyst for more than 16 years and was known for her expertise with Service Desk Banner.

Kiran Budhrani, from Center for Teaching and Learning, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through May 28.To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. On Saturday, April 10, UNC Charlotte students, faculty, staff and leaders marched to protect Asian lives. Now, as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the UNC Charlotte community must increase its knowledge and understanding regarding AAPI experiences and issues.
