Former EPA administrator, N.J. governor to talk nuclear energy
Christine Todd Whitman, a former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and governor of New Jersey, will present “Nuclear Energy and Its Role in America’s Energy Future” at 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, in EPIC, Room G256.
Currently the co-chair of the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition, Whitman will discuss U.S. energy policy in the free, public event. Prospective attendees are asked to email RSVPs to Marian Lambert at marian.lambert@uncc.edu.
EPIC to partner on SunShot grant with startup firm
The University’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center is a partner on a $620,000 federal grant to develop a molecule inverter that mounts on solar panels.
EPIC will work with clean-energy startup SineWatts, according to an article in the Charlotte Business Journal.
SineWatts will open an office in Charlotte. It is likely to be a tenant UNC Charlotte Portal Building when the facility opens in early 2014.
Siemens Scholarship winners announced
The Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) and Siemens have awarded the fall 2012 Siemens Energy Scholarships to three undergraduates and one graduate student in the William States Lee College of Engineering.
The prestigious $15,000 undergraduate scholarships were presented to electrical engineering major Walter Bomela and mechanical engineering majors Brendon Almond and Stephen O’Brien. The $30,000 graduate scholarship went to Jason Anderson, a doctoral student in electrical engineering.
