UNC Charlotte’s 49er Rocketry Club took first place in the launch division of the 2022 NASA Student Launch Competition, securing the event’s overall No. 1 spot for the second year in a row and earning a $5,000 prize.

When Sydney Prince, a senior mechanical engineering major, climbed behind the wheel of UNC Charlotte’s Formula-style race car in a recent competition, it was the ultimate driving exam.

After hundreds of submissions from UNC Charlotte students were narrowed down to two, the students voted “The 49th Acre” as the new name for the Student Outdoor Event Venue and Tailgate Park.

The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association sponsored a series of events Thursday, May 12, to help the Class of 2022 transition from students to alumni.

The Charlotte 49ers are joining forces with several leading sports organizations in the Charlotte area to offer enriching experiences for young people interested in the sports industry.

The Charlotte 49ers 2022 football schedule includes eight Conference USA games and a four-game non-conference slate. Seven of the 49ers’ opponents appeared in 2021 FBS Bowl games, including home opponents Maryland, WKU and UTEP.  In head coach Will Healy’s fourth season, the 49ers will play six home games and six road games.

Charlotte’s season will open with a C-USA road game at Florida Atlantic Saturday, Aug. 27. This is the first time in program history that Charlotte will open its season with a C-USA game
