Meet Isaiah Young
Meet Isaiah Young ’22, an environmental monitoring technician and a part of the wastewater testing team. Learn about his team’s work with COVID testing, the lessons from his job and what popular artist he jams out to in the lab.
How long have you been at UNC Charlotte?
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in May 2022. I have been on staff ever since, so this is currently my sixth year at UNC Charlotte, five as a student and one as an employee.

Krystion Obie Nelson ’05, M.A. ’11 is the director of student-athlete development for the Charlotte 49ers. Obie Nelson, who played for the 49ers women’s basketball team from 2002-06 and served as an assistant coach from 2007-10, has been an instructor, advisor, lecturer and interim director in the University’s American Studies program since 2012.

Meet Sasha Sembur
Sasha Sembur, a sophomore in the Honors College, is studying communication studies and political science with a minor in American studies. In her time on campus, she won the best resolution award in the North Carolina Student Legislature and created a nonpartisan news organization, which achieved first place through Ventureprise. Among her achievements, she brought a new campus initiative to life through the combined efforts of the Student Government Association and the Parking and Transportation Services Office.
