John Connaughton from the Belk College of Business discusses his recent Babson Capital/UNC Charlotte Economic Forecast with Stephen Ward, executive director of University communications, for a segment that will air on UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Now” at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Stephen Billings, associate professor of economics and the co-director of the Center for Real Estate in the Belk College of Business, and Alyson Metcalfe, director of the Master of Science in Real Estate program and Liz Ward, a program alumna, will be guests on the Dec.4 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. 

Billings will give an overview of the Center for Real Estate and talk about its research and outreach.  Metcalfe and Ward will talk about the Master of Science in Real Estate program and how people can apply.

Christie Amato from the UNC Charotte Executive Association and Alexandra Yaconetti of the Graduate Business Association, will be the guests on the Nov. 13 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. Amato will give an overview of the new Belk College of Business Executive Education program, and Yaconetti will discuss the benefits of the Graduate Business Association.

Mira Frisch, associate professor of cello and director of String Chamber Music, will be the guest on the Nov. 6 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. She will discuss the upcoming  Faculty & Friends Concert, featuring the Madison Park String Quartet.

In a special “Live Wire,” the University’s chief medical officer Robert Jones examines the health care implications of Ebola from a scientific perspective, especially as it relates to the University community.

The program airs at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30 after the “Live Wire” related to facilities management. Recently, the University hosted an interdisciplinary panel discussion on the disease from a humanities/social sciences perspective.

UNC Charlotte’s Botanical Gardens, a top visitors’ attraction for the Charlotte region, will be featured on the Oct. 31 edition of UNC-TV’s “North Carolina Now.” The show airs at 7:30 p.m.

Approximately 25,000 individuals each year make a trip through the 10-acre Botanical Gardens, which includes the McMillan Greenhouse, Susie Harwood Garden and the Van Landingham Glen. Throughout the year, Botanical Gardens personnel promote learning about different plants and flowers through public presentations.

Andrew Hartley, Robinson Distinguished Professor of Theatre, and theatre major Casey King, will be the guests on the Oct. 23 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. They will discuss the Department of Theatre production of “The Merry Wives,” which runs Thursday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Nov. 2, in the Black Box Theater of the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts.

Amy Palmer with the College of Education’s Department of Special Education and Child Development won a $250 U.S. Airways gift card as part of a Giving Green raffle. The drawing was held to encourage financial support for agencies within the State Employees Combined Campaign.

Founder and CEO of DonorsChoose Charles Best will discuss his “crowd funding” approach to philanthropy at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14. Inside UNC Charlotte will livestream the presentation. Best has been named to Fortune magazine’s “40 Under 40 Hottest Rising Stars in Business” for three consecutive years. He created the nonprofit DonorsChoose.org while a history teacher in the Bronx to address inequality in education funding. Through the website, teachers could create classroom project requests, and donors could pick the projects they wanted to support financially.

“The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast, will broadcast two shows on Thursday, Oct. 16.

In the first episode at 10 a.m., Darlene Heater, executive director for University City Partners, will discuss the impact of the Blue Line extension coming to the University area.

At 2 p.m., tune in for a segment about “ICARUS,” the current exhibition displayed at the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City, with director of galleries Crista Cammaroto.
