Be the force of change on campus and beyond: Participate in the Student Sustainability Summit

Curious about how trees and landscapes affect UNC Charlotte and the Charlotte region?

Attend this semester’s Student Sustainability Summit to learn from campus researchers, student leaders and Charlotte-based organizations about trees and landscapes on campus and in the Charlotte region.

The summit, hosted by the Office of Sustainability and representatives from the Student Government Association with support from the Charlotte Green Initiative, takes place at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, in Cone University Center, Room 210.

Speakers for this year’s summit are Heather Brent from TreesCharlotte and Sara Gagné from the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences. Brent is the urban forest educator for TreesCharlotte, an organization committed to achieving manageable canopy goals. Brent will discuss sustainability and the tree canopy within the Charlotte area. Gagné is an associate professor of landscape ecology and the department chair. Gagné will speak about bird window collisions and biodiversity on campus.

The event will conclude with the opportunity for students to discuss actionable ideas to create sustainable change.

“Sustainability is important for everyone on the planet, because we all want to live well, we all want other people and other species to live well, and we all want our Earth to be happy and healthy,” Gagné said. “Students should attend the summit to learn more about the positive things happening on campus that are helping the Earth and other species.

Students and student organizations interested in attending the summit are encouraged to register in advance on Niner Engage.
The Student Sustainability Summit is part of UNC Charlotte’s Campus Sustainability Earth Month Celebration.
