University SHRA Employee Grievance Policy changes

Categories: Faculty/Staff Tags: Human Resources

The State Human Resources Commission recently approved updates to the SHRA Employee Grievance Policy, effective Dec. 1. These revisions aim to enhance clarity, ensure consistency across agencies and institutions and align the policy with recent legislative changes.

Key updates include:

  • New employment preference for National Guard members: A statutory change now extends eligibility for the formal grievance procedure to individuals covered under the National Guard employment preference.
  • Clarification of grievable issues: The policy now provides clearer guidance on which concerns qualify for the formal grievance process and which should instead be addressed through the Informal Discussion/Informal Inquiry process or another alternative dispute resolution method determined by the University.
  • Updated EEO references: Edits were made to ensure consistency with current Equal Employment Opportunity policy language and standards.

These updates support a fair and transparent process for resolving employee concerns while maintaining alignment with current state policies and procedures.
