As part of America’s 250th anniversary, Atkins Library is displaying an exhibit on how Charlotte earned its reputation as a “hornet’s nest of rebellion” during the American Revolution. According to local lore, British General Charles Cornwallis bitterly described the city in this way after his troops faced unexpectedly fierce resistance.
