World Affairs Council of Charlotte recognizes Gallegos
Joël Gallegos, assistant provost for international programs, recently received the Harold P. Josephson Award from the World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC).
The honor is given to individuals who have contributed significantly to WACC and the international life of the community.
Gallegos serves on the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, where he chairs the education committee. He previously served as a member of the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Board of Directors and as chair of CIEE’s Academic Consortium Board from 2012-14. The board provides academic oversight evaluating quality control of CIEE’s 200 education abroad programs in more than 40 countries.
In his role at the University, Gallegos overseas the institution’s internationalization efforts including education abroad and exchange, international students and scholar services, intensive English language training and intercultural outreach and on-campus programming. Previously, he served as director of education abroad at UNC Charlotte and director of study abroad and adjunct professor of French at the University of Toledo.
The late Harold Josephson was a former associate vice chancellor for international programs at UNC Charlotte.
