Chancellor Dubois among leaders to watch in 2019
UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois is among the business and civic leaders to watch in 2019, according to the Charlotte Business Journal.
The publication noted that the chancellor presides over the third-largest UNC System institution, with 29,710 students for the 2018-19 academic year. Also, Dubois and his leadership team are guiding the development of a hotel and conference center that is scheduled to open in 2020.
During his tenure, Dubois has championed the extension of the CATS light rail to the UNC Charlotte campus. As the article writer pointed out, light rail will enable the University to “reach an unofficial goal of 35,000 students without providing more parking.”
In March 2018, the Blue Line Extension, which links UNC Charlotte Center City to two stations that support the University, opened. The extension provides an unprecedented level of connectivity for the campus and the city. Faculty, staff and students have quick access to the cultural and entertainment amenities of Uptown Charlotte through a relatively short ride. Conversely riders all along the light rail line have access to the educational, athletic and cultural opportunities that UNC Charlotte affords the region.
