World-renowned physicist to discuss how science will revolutionize the future

Renowned futurist, theoretical physicist and author Michio Kaku will deliver the 2018 Chancellor’s Speaker Series presentation, part of the annual UNC Charlotte Civic Series presented by Bank of America.

An event for students, faculty and staff is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Popp Martin Student Union Multipurpose Room. Members of the campus community can RSVP online to attend.

The Henry Semat Chair in Theoretical Physics at the City College of New York, Kaku will discuss how science will revolutionize the economy, jobs, medicine and space travel during the next 20 years. Predicting such trends is an area in which Kaku is internationally recognized. An expert in Albert Einstein’s unified field theory, Kaku is co-founder of the string field theory. He is continuing Einstein’s quest to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into a single grand unified theory of everything.

Kaku’s latest work, “The Future of Humanity,” focuses on how humanity might gradually develop a sustainable civilization in outer space. Another work, “The Future of the Mind,” was No. 1 on the New York Times, Amazon and Barnes & Noble lists of best-sellers, making it the top hardcover, nonfiction book in the country.

As a researcher, Kaku has published more than 70 physics journal articles, and he is a regular guest on national and international television shows and hosts a national weekly science radio show. His Facebook page has more than three million fans.

A graduate of Harvard University, Kaku completed a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California at Berkeley. He has taught at the City College of New York for more than 40 years.

The UNC Charlotte Civic Series presented by Bank of America brings nationally recognized speakers to the UNC Charlotte and greater Charlotte communities for thought-provoking conversations.
