UNC Charlotte’s burgeoning enrollment over the past 15 years prompted strategic planning to support students’ well-being and personal growth.

Paula Keeton, Ph.D., recently joined UNC Charlotte as director of the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and she believes in the power of community.With 25 years of experience providing mental health services in college and university settings, Keeton now oversees the development, implementation and administration of clinical, outreach and training services for CAPS.During her career, Keeton has witnessed the shift in mental health offerings on campuses across the country.

Jeremiah Canty ’19 found the right fit at UNC Charlotte. The Belk College of Business marketing major wanted to attend college in a metropolitan area that not only offered his major but that had a diverse population.

Diversity and inclusion efforts continue to expand across campus as members of the Council on University Community Working Group implement the UNC Charlotte Plan for Campus, Diversity, Access and Inclusion and make additional recommendations.Chance Lewis, who leads the cross-campus working group, challenged members to encourage and support the development of local diversity and inclusion plans within their units.

“Future Artifacts,” an exhibition in the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC Charlotte Center City, will be displayed through Friday, March 13. Featuring works by five artists, “Future Artifacts” addresses the “digital reality” of contemporary culture and its effect on artists and art-making.

Kelly Happe, an associate professor from the University of Georgia, will present “Epigenetics, Race and Justice: Rethinking the Relationship between Science and Redress” at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Cone University Center, Room 210.

A new program is connecting UNC Charlotte experts with school counselors in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) to provide professional development in designing curriculum for critical classroom lessons.

“Cartographer,” a film by Associate Professor of Art Marek Ranis was screened recently at the Northern Norway Art Museum in Tromsø, Norway.The 45-minute film is about the life and activism of the Sámi artist and poet Hans Ragnar Mathisen, one of the most significant artists of the Arctic region. An artist talk with Ranis and Mathisen followed the screening.

The robust job market experienced nationally in major job centers, such as Charlotte and Raleigh, has led individuals to pursue online degrees at a higher rate than face-to-face enrollment, as this allows students to more easily attend college while working. Between 2012 and 2016, graduate enrollment in exclusively online programs increased by approximately 28 percent while online undergraduate enrollment increased by 9.5 percent, according to EAB.
