Gold Rush ushers in new academic year
Each August, UNC Charlotte kicks off the academic year by welcoming new and returning students to campus with a week of programming called Gold Rush (formerly Week of Welcome). Gold Rush begins Friday, Aug. 16, with the Union Takeover at 7 p.m. and will run through Sunday, Aug. 25, with the National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Show.
Faculty & Friends Concert Series starts Aug. 26
The Department of Music will present Assistant Professor of Trumpet Eric Millard and pianist Erin Palmer in the first Faculty & Friends Concert of the 2019-20 season. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, in the Rowe Recital Hall.The lively program, titled “Carnaval,” will feature a wide range of music, from the Concerto in E-flat by the 19th century opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, to the Irish ballad, “’Tis the Last Rose of Summer.”
UNC Charlotte among first Student Success Innovation Lab grantees
Helping students complete their undergraduate degrees in a timely manner is important to UNC Charlotte and the entire UNC System. The University recently received a financial award to implement “Funds to Finish?” as part of the inaugural Student Success Innovation Lab (SSIL) grant competition.

Architecture team wins honorable mention in international competition
A team of architecture students, led by School of Architecture faculty members Chris Jarrett and Peter Wong, has received an Honorable Mention in the 2019 Timber in the City: Urban Habitats Competition presented by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA).
School of Architecture to co-present ‘Cities of Tomorrow’
The School of Architecture and Discovery Place Science will co-present “Cities of Tomorrow,” a panel discussion featuring UNC Charlotte architecture faculty and alumni, on Friday, Aug. 23, at Discovery Place. The discussion is inspired by the “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO Bricks” exhibition, which is on display at the science museum.
