Traditionally, university counseling centers shoulder the bulk of student mental health support services. However, at UNC Charlotte, where the student population exceeds 30,000, the approach to mental health care extends campuswide.
CAPS same-day initial appointments model yielding early success
The Center for Counseling and Psychological Services introduced a new service model last semester, the “same-day access model,” and the early results are impressive.
Under the previous model, by the 10th week of the fall 2022 semester, only 63% of students had shown up for their first counseling appointment. For fall 2023, there was a 100% show rate by the 10th week.
Scholars Collegiate Gaming names Niner Esports Club of the Year
National recognition for Niner Esports, UNC Charlotte’s esports club, continues with winning Club of the Year at this year’s Scholars Collegiate Gaming Awards in Las Vegas.
Current club co-presidents Alexis Diamond and Pake Cary, along with community events director Valentin Cannon and former club president and current Niner Esports alumni advisor Jorge Sanchez ’23 accepted the honor at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Niner Esports celebrates nominations, funding for new facility
Niner Esports, UNC Charlotte’s esports club, is celebrating its four nominations for the Scholars Collegiate Gaming Awards. To support the club, anyone with a valid email address can vote for Niner Esports on the Scholars website a max of once per day until Monday, Nov. 20.
