UNC Charlotte conferred more than 3,800 undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees and graduate certificates during 2023 Fall Commencement ceremonies held in Dale F. Halton Arena Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16.

The UNC Charlotte School of Professional Studies recently convened the inaugural Leading the Change: Charlotte Symposium on Online Learning and Beyond. Online learning leaders and advocates across UNC Charlotte discussed ways to best prepare the University for the growing demand from students for high-quality online programs. 

The event provided a platform to share successes, exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and envision the exciting path ahead for Charlotte online.

National recognition for Niner Esports, UNC Charlotte’s esports club, continues with winning Club of the Year at this year’s Scholars Collegiate Gaming Awards in Las Vegas.

Current club co-presidents Alexis Diamond and Pake Cary, along with community events director Valentin Cannon and former club president and current Niner Esports alumni advisor Jorge Sanchez ’23 accepted the honor at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Virtually every graduate has a story highlighting how UNC Charlotte has transformed their lives. Here’s a collection of 16, curated by the Office of University Communications as Charlotte celebrates Fall Commencement.

UNC Charlotte again is on Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges, an annual publication that recognizes academic institutions’ sustainability-related policies, practices and programs. UNC Charlotte is one of 522 colleges included in the 2024 edition.

A high school crush and a broken leg helped Luther “Cole” Kissam V find his passion for writing, but working through his mental health struggles set Cole on a path to be a published author, and helped him develop the growth mindset he needed after dropping out of college, twice. Cole will graduate from UNC Charlotte in December 2023 with a bachelor’s of English, but there were many times that he wasn’t sure if he would be in college at all, much less graduating with Honors. 

University marshal is an honor UNC Charlotte bestows on distinguished faculty members. They represent the faculty at ceremonial functions of the University, including commencement, and serve as symbols of faculty excellence and leadership in teaching, professional achievement and service to campus and community. Commencement can signify a beginning for faculty members much like it does for graduating students. This fall, it does so for Robert Reimer, who will retire and start a new life chapter after 53 years at UNC Charlotte as a professor of German and film studies.

Chris Cameron has been a professor in the History Department for over 13 years. Learn about his education, his historical interests and advice he gives his students.

Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte?

I teach classes in early American history, African-American history, and religious and intellectual history. I am also an active scholar who has published five books.

Where did you go to school?

On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16, UNC Charlotte will hold fall Commencement ceremonies for 2023 graduates in Dale F. Halton Arena.
