Talk to focus on Lean Six Sigma and legal process
Kevin Divine, chief information officer for the Hunoval Law Firm, will discuss “Lean Six Sigma in Legal Business Processes” at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, in the Cameron Applied Research Center, Room 101. The talk is part of the Industrial and Technology Management Seminars sponsored by the Lee College of Engineering’s Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management.
MEDIC, EH&S partnering to offer CPR training on campus
More Americans die annually from sudden cardiac arrest than breast and lung cancer, stroke and AIDS combined. Increasing bystander medical awareness and training to aid individuals who experience sudden cardiac arrest is the impetus for the Lucky Hearts Campaign.
Inside UNC Charlotte to air live webcast of International Festival
UNC Charlotte’s 38th annual International Festival is Saturday, Sept. 28, and this celebration is a chance to learn more about the people, places and cultures represented in Charlotte. Inside UNC Charlotte will provide live coverage of the festival through a webcast starting at 10 a.m. The broadcast will feature a variety of performances from inside and around the Halton Arena and interviews with participants.
MRC programs to focus on LGBTQ history and disability
Throughout October, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will sponsor events to promote awareness of LGBTQ history and issues related to disability. These programs include:
Oct. 2—“Let’s Talk About it: Ability” will focus on conversations about disabilities at 12:30 p.m. in Student Union, Room 263. Attendees should come prepared to share their thoughts and to hear others’ perspectives.
Faith leader, social activist Yvette Flunder to give OUTSpoken lecture
Nationally known faith leader and social activist Rev. Yvette Flunder will explore race, sexuality, religion and politics in the lecture “Re-colonizing: Using the Fight for Gay Rights to Divide the Black Community” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
Cook receives Provost’s Faculty Award for Community Engagement
James Cook, professor of psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is the first recipient of the Provost’s Faculty Award for Community Engagement.
Established in 2012, the award honors a tenured faculty member whose teaching, research and service embodies the University’s commitment to civic involvement and whose work strengthens the relationship between UNC Charlotte and the larger community.
Oasis Saxophone Quartet to perform
The UNC Charlotte Department of Music Faculty & Friends Series will feature a performance by the Oasis Saxophone Quartet at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts, Belk Theater.
Founded in 2006, the Oasis Quartet has been praised for its live performances, as well as for its innovative and creative clinic and concert programming. In a review of the quartet’s 2011 album, Allmusic wrote, “The Oasis Quartet performs with impeccable technique and intonation, and the players have a sweet, pure tone.”
‘Mad Hatters to Pixel Pushers’ exhibit explores photography
The Projective Eye Gallery of the College of Arts + Architecture presents “Mad Hatters to Pixel Pushers: Exploring the Continuum of Photography Through Process and the Constructed Image.”
A free, public opening reception for the display will be 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at the gallery, located in UNC Charlotte Center City; it will feature conversations with the artists and a performance by the UNC Charlotte Faculty Jazz Quintet.
Internal audit offers reminder on proper disposal of state property
University employees have a responsibility to safeguard state property, and this responsibility extends to the proper disposal of state property.
Tom York, director of internal audit, noted a recent investigative audit report published by the Office of the State Auditor provides an example as to why all employees should be aware of the proper procedures for disposing of state property.
