UNC Charlotte is developing a classroom master plan, and we need to hear from you, our students. Drop by the Prospector Food Court Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to provide input on your experience in classrooms and study spaces at Charlotte. 

This pop-up event will allow you to tell us about your experience in formal learning spaces through a few quick activities. What do you like about existing spaces? How and where do you best study? Stop by and share your experience and ideas to improve the Niner community.

Lauren Wilkie is a Gold Duster, recent BMW Intern, woman engineer and first-generation college student. Did you know she’s also a Freeman Scholar who wants to help emphasize women in STEM?  With BMW experience, Gold Duster energy and engineering skills, Wilkie is forging her own future. What is the most significant challenge you’ve faced and how are you working to overcome it?

Mary Messina is a junior pursuing a triple major in international studies (concentrating in peace, conflict and identity), political science and French. She is a  Levine Scholar and the founder of Students in Mediation, providing student opportunities to practice and learn mediation and conflict resolution. In addition, Messina is a college mentor for kids and is involved with the University’s English Language Training Institute.

Rachel Palmroos, a fourth-year political science major, was born and raised in Charlotte. Her father always predicted this would be her future school and true enough the Charlotte campus became her home. She is a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta, sweetheart of Zeta Beta Tau and field director of the North Carolina Young People’s Alliance.

What would you like to share about the organization you lead, and what is the most rewarding part of your position?

Christian Rios is a double major in political science and history with a minor in American studies. His involvement on campus ranges from being a Niner guide, previously a senator and now the current SGA chief of staff. He also participates in the Mock Trial club and works in the Popp Martin Student Union as a reservation specialist. As a senior, he will be the first in his family not only to obtain a high school diploma but to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. 

What are your favorite places on campus and what do you love about UNC Charlotte?

Bell ringers are outstanding student leaders who have demonstrated exemplary 49er spirit within organizations, volunteerism or service to others. One bell ringer is selected for each ceremony.

Applications to be a member of the 2023 orientation counselor team are being accepted through Friday, Oct. 7.

Orientation counselors use their leadership skills to welcome new 49ers and their family members to campus annually. They serve as small group facilitators, peer educators, resource guides and role models to first-year students, transfer students, families and guests. Orientation counselors also help facilitate Gold Rush and Family Weekend programming.

 Originally from Nigeria, Temitayo Ologun is a graduate student working on a master’s degree in data science and business analytics.
