Visitors Guide to help guests ‘Stake Their Claim’

The University Communications Office has published the UNC Charlotte Visitors Guide aimed at attracting people to campus, simply to enjoy the sights, sounds and beauty of the University. Hard copies of the 32-page publication are being distributed to businesses and organizations in University City and throughout Charlotte.

The guide features photos and copy on a variety of topics, such as dining and shopping on campus, the greenway and gardens, performing arts, public art on campus, athletics and key facts about UNC Charlotte.

“Developing the Visitors Guide is a cost-effective way to portray the many attractions of this campus to people who may not have been on campus – and who may be new to Charlotte,” said Stephen Ward, executive director of University communications. “The guide is paid for primarily through the sale of advertising by a company called Campus Publishers.  University Communications oversaw the layout and design of the guide and is handling the distribution.”

A digital version of the guide may also be posted on the UNC Charlotte website in the near future.

This summer was an ideal time to publish the guide, said John Bland, director of public relations. “Charlotte is still growing steadily and also is a popular stop for business people. And with the presidential nominating convention drawing thousands more visitors to the city, this guide will provide an extra boost to the University’s profile.”

The guide’s are being distributed to hotels in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties; nonprofits, such as the Charlotte Chamber and University City Partners, stores, fitness centers and locations on campus such as the Student Union, UNC Charlotte Center City and campus coffee houses.
