Campus invited to join COED efforts to honor Sandy Hook victims

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

In December 2012, a tragedy occurred in the small town of Newtown, Conn., where 27 children and six educators were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The College of Education faculty and staff have joined to recognize the heroic efforts of the educators who lost their lives that day with a $1,000 contribution to the Cato Teaching Discovery Mural. Permanent remembrances on the Cato Teaching Discovery Mural will list educators who serve as an inspiration to others by name. The mural is under construction in the courtyard next to the College of Education building.

The recognition of the Sandy Hook faculty was inspired by College of Education Business Officer Bonnie Morton.“The faculty who lost their lives at Sandy Hook represent many fields represented in the College of Education— leadership, teaching and counseling. They are educators who have inspired the world in their efforts to protect the children in their care.”

Employees interested in honoring an inspirational teacher or who would like to know more about the Cato Teaching Discovery Mural should contact Tim Rogers, director of development for the College of Education.
