Tuesday, February 5, 2013

The Graduate and Professional Student Government and the Graduate School Center for Graduate Life will hold a Graduate Student Appreciation Week from Monday, Feb. 18, through Saturday, Feb 23.

According to Graduate School officials, this week-long celebration will recognize the University’s 5,000 graduate students who support the research of faculty and who help to teach undergraduates. Programming during the week also will provide opportunities for graduate students to hone their academic skills and knowledge.

“This week is designed to highlight the work done by our graduate students,” said Katherine Hall-Hertel, assistant dean of the Graduate School.  “The events, activities and workshops give graduate students a chance to network, further develop their expertise and have a bit of fun.”

Highlights of the week include the workshop “Introduction to the Teaching Portfolio” scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, in Atkins Library. Barbi Honeycutt, assistant professor in the Department of Leadership, Policy, Adult and Higher Education at N.C. State University will be the facilitator.

Anita Blanchard from the University’s Psychology Department will lead a workshop on resume writing at noon, Monday, Feb. 18, in the Center for Graduate Life, and Justin Case from the University Center for Academic Excellence will conduct a session on speed reading at 5 p.m., Feb. 18, in Atkins Library
