Starrett to discuss Egypt for final Great Decisions talk
Gregory Starrett, a faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Anthropology Department, will talk about Egypt for the final installment of the 2013 Great Decisions Lecture Series. His presentation will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
Since joining the University faculty in 1992, Starrett has talked about his research on the cultural politics of Islam in the Middle East to numerous audiences. He is the author of “Putting Islam to Work: Education, Politics and Religious Transformation in Egypt.” Published in 1998, the work examines religious education and its connection to state politics and Islamic movements. He recently co-edited “Teaching Islam: Religion and Textbooks in the Middle East.”
Presentations and discussion topics for the 2013 Great Decisions Lecture Series were selected by the Foreign Policy Association. The free, public series is sponsored by the Office of International Programs and coordinated in partnership with Charlotte Country Day School and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte.
