Officials with the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) recently announced the 2012 campaign concluded with contributions totaling $4.4 million, an increase of 5.5 percent from 2011. UNC Charlotte was among the top 10 state agencies with an increase in SECC contributions.

The University’s SECC drive was conducted as part of the annual Giving Green campaign this past fall with 348 UNC Charlotte employees contributing $62,672. Across the UNC system, giving increased by more than $180,000, the largest increase was from UNC-Chapel Hill through its “Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares – Tar Heels Give More” campaign. N.C. State’s “Wolfpack Gives Back” drive had the second largest increase with more than 40 percent of its employees participating.

UNC Charlotte’s Giving Green campaign also raised funds for the Arts & Science Council and the UNC Charlotte Foundation. Twenty percent of the University’s employees participated in the fundraising part of Giving Green; the fall effort also included opportunities for employees to volunteer in the community.

The SECC is an authorized fundraising campaign permitted to solicit charitable contributions in the state employee workplace. Its aim is to strengthen and sustain North Carolina communities and their citizens.  The campaign enables state employees and retirees the opportunity to support charitable organizations that are accountable, fiscally sound and committed to improving the quality of life in North Carolina, the nation and the world.
