Student Health Center cosponsoring national health assessment

Friday, February 15, 2013

Through Friday, March 1, the Student Health Center will cosponsor the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), a survey, conducted in conjunction with the Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. The assessment provides the University with health, wellness, mental health, behavioral and attitudinal information about UNC Charlotte students.

The Student Health Center uses the information collected by the NCHA to assess student needs and improve programming. Angela Allen, associate director for administrative services at the Student Health Center, encourages all faculty and staff to incorporate NCHA data into program development.

“As UNC Charlotte, faculty and staff strive to exceed expectations for our accreditation processes, institutional effectiveness and grant requirements. We are all looking for ways to demonstrate the effectiveness of our programming and the continuing need for programmatic expansions,” Allen said. “The NCHA provides an extensive database of UNC Charlotte student behaviors, perceptions and impressions of our interactions with them. It also allows UNC Charlotte to compare our performance with a vast national database of participating colleges and universities across the country.”

Allen noted that the Student Health Center has used the NCHA for years, especially to track success in presenting alcohol education initiatives to students.

Some 8,000 randomly selected students received an initial NCHA survey invitation on Monday, Feb. 11. Reminder emails will be sent on Feb. 15, Feb. 19 and Feb. 27. Students who complete the survey are entered into random drawings for a campus parking sticker for the 2013-14 academic year and several Barnes & Noble gift certificates.

The NCHA is created and administered by the American College Health Association (ACHA). For more information about the survey and about the ACHA, visit their website
