Ink Spot enables remote printing

REPROS, the campus copy center, has introduced Ink Spot, a “print from anywhere” enhancement to the University’s pay-for-print service.

Instead of only printing from a computer in the library or lab, students now can send documents to print remotely, through any Internet-connected PC, tablet or smart phone. Faculty and staff also can use this service to make personal prints from many points on campus.

Sending documents from a PC or laptop is via Web upload; smart phones and tablets should use the PrinterOn app, available for IOS, Android and Blackberry. The consumer then selects “UNC Charlotte” and specifies black and white or color printing. Uploaded documents reside in a print queue (for up to three days) until released at any Ink Spot print station.

There are currently 15 Ink Spot-enabled locations in Atkins Library, Fretwell Building, Student Union, EPIC and at UNC Charlotte Center City. Ink Spot logo denotes these locations, and Ink Spot printing only works with the 49er account. Departmental copy cards, guest cards or copy codes are not accepted.

REPROS is located in the Prospector Building. It is part of the reprographics program managed by the Auxiliary Services Department; the program includes pay-for-print and convenience copiers on a campus. The technology partner is Ricoh Managed Services who made Ink Spot available to campus with technical assistance from UNC Charlotte ITS.

Rick Torres, auxiliary services program manager for vending, reprographics and ATMs, said, “We’re pleased to add Ink Spot remote printing to our services. It’s something students have needed and wanted for awhile.” He added that as use of the program grows, more Ink Spot-enabled devices will be added.
