Historian to talk about sports and the modern South

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Nationally noted independent historian and author Pamela Grundy will speak on “Sports and the Building of the Modern South” at 7 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Levine Museum of the New South.

The event, presented by UNC Charlotte’s Center for the Study of the New South in partnership with the Levine Museum, begins with a 6:30 p.m. pre-reception. A book signing and reception will follow Grundy’s lecture.

“Sports reflect cultural patterns,” said Jeffrey Leak, director of the Center for the Study of the New South, which is sponsoring the series Sports in the New South: Culture, Color and Cash. “Sports can serve as a springboard for community discussions. In this series of events that will continue through the fall of 2013, we will take a look at sports from a wide array of community perspectives.”

The Center is part of UNC Charlotte’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. RSVPs for the event are requested by Wednesday, April 10; call 704-687-0082 or email CLAS-Event@uncc.edu. (Prospective attendees should note the name of this event in their response; the email box and phone number are used for other events and purposes.)
