Save the Children, in partnership with the Frontline Health Workers Coalition, recently recognized School of Nursing alum Donn Kropp for his extraordinary service in health care.

A 2001 graduate of the school’s RN-BSN program, Kropp was one of nine frontline health care workers selected to receive the inaugural REAL Health Care Heroes Emergency Care Award. The honor recognizes health care workers for their lifesaving service in the United States and around the world.

Award recipients were honored formally at the Save the Children Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. In January, Kropp was recognized by former President Bill Clinton at the Patient Safety, Science and Technology Summit in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

A resident of Redding, Calif., where he lives with his wife and two children, Kropp also operates two companies dedicated to enhancing continuing education opportunities for professionals in the medical field.

The REAL Awards is a first-of-its-kind global program designed to develop greater respect and appreciation for health workers and the lifesaving care they provide in the United States and globally. The honor is made possible through the support of the Medtronic Foundation, Merck Foundation and Masimo Foundation for Ethics, Innovation and Competition Healthcare.

The School of Nursing is part of the University's College of Health and Human Services (CHHS).
