Maren Coffman, an assistant professor in the School of Nursing in the College of Health and Human Services, is the 2013 recipient of the International Education Faculty Award given by the UNC Charlotte Office of International Programs.

According to the award selection committee, Coffman was recognized for her international work and significant contributions to the international study experience as well as the dimensions of her international scholarship and professional service.

Coffman facilitated a campus visit for nursing faculty and students from the University of Guanajuato at Irapuato School of Nursing, located in Mexico, in 2011.  The School of Nursing, with support from the (CHHS) and the Office of International Programs, provided arrival and departure receptions, ground transportation, arranged host family and campus housing and recruited student volunteers to provide translation services.

In 2012, Coffman organized, planned and developed international travel to Havana, Cuba, that allowed students to learn about that country’s health care system and structure.

“I am truly honored to have been selected for this award,” said Coffman said. “The international work I have done as a UNC Charlotte faculty member has been the highlight of my academic career.”

The Office of International Programs recently honored Coffman formally during an awards ceremony.
