College of Liberal Arts & Sciences to honor lecturers

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Six faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) have been nominated for the college’s Full-time Lecturer Award and four have been nominated for the Part-time Lecturer Award.

“Lecturers, who often teach students at the very start of their academic careers, help to set these students on a path toward success,” said CLAS Dean Nancy Gutierrez. “These nominees clearly are dedicated teachers who play instrumental roles in our academic programs.”

Nominees for the full-time lecturer honor are Debbie Kilby Baker, communication studies; Topher Gee, biology; Pedram Leilabady, physics and optical science; Shep McKinley, history; Mary Michael, psychology; and Susan Michael, chemistry.

Part-time lecturer nominees are Carol Higham, history; Sarah Minslow, English; Monica Rabinovich, chemistry; and Ellyn Ritterskamp, philosophy.

Department chairs and program directors in the college nominate lecturers for these annual awards. CLAS will host an awards reception from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Monday, April 29, in Cone University Center, Room 112. The college and University communities are invited.

“We thank these dedicated faculty members and look forward to announcing the award recipients,” Gutierrez said. “We also thank the award committee members for their hard work.”

The committee comprises Jamie Strickland, committee chair and 2012 recipient of the award for full-time lecturers; Lawrence Calhoun; Isaac Heard; Harold Reiter; and Joanne Robinson.
