Faces – Frank Hogan

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

As a member of the Staff Council, Frank Hogan and his fellow representatives are working toward creating an even more harmonious working environment for everyone at UNC Charlotte.

Hogan serves as the Area 13 representative for the council. Staff members in the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Dean of Students Office, research and systems development, health programs and services and the Counseling Center can contact him with suggestions for topics to bring to the council.

As a representative, Hogan sends out approved minutes of the council to personnel in student affairs; he also provides his colleagues with details on any state legislation that might affect them and relays information about all yearly council events, such as the annual Fall Festival, Homecoming contests and other opportunities for staff to show employee pride. He noted improving employee safety, parking concerns and promoting positive campus work environments are current initiatives of the Staff Council.

While he is a council representative, Hogan is first and foremost a business and technology applications analyst with student affairs. In this capacity, he supports and maintains student affairs IT programs, as well as content management software data and e-commerce systems. He also is testing OrgSync, a Facebook-like software for students that will allow groups to set up organizational profiles and to communicate events to club members. He expects it to launch later this year.

“I feel grateful to be able to work with such wonderful staff members who are all very dedicated and tremendous people as well as interact with so many enthusiastic students” stated Hogan.

A native of Canada, Hogan arrived in the Queen City by way of Vancouver. During his time at UNC Charlotte, he has witnessed a number of changes. “When I arrived 10 years ago much of the campus was underdeveloped. Since then, with so much construction and new buildings, it now feels like its own city.”

Beyond the University, Hogan likes to take advantage of a benefit for all permanent University employees – tuition waiver; employees are allowed to take two classes per academic year. Currently, he is enrolled in an Internet marketing class. A passionate outdoor enthusiast, Hogan kayaks on the weekends at the White Water Center, and he has competed in half-marathons for the past seven years – in 2012, he participated in one in New York. Hogan is organizer of the 49ers Greenway three-mile run, which is open to the campus community; the club run starts from the Wine Vault at 6 p.m., Mondays.
