UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School is slated to host a delegation from the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST), Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Wednesday through Friday, May 1-3.

Among the international visitors will be SSST’s chancellor, rector and founder Ejup Ganić, former president of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ganić holds a Ph.D. in engineering science from MIT and has taught at the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Ganić has been involved politically since 1990. In Bosnia-Herzegovina’s first democratic election (November 1990), he was elected as a member of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, holding office until September 1996. He later was elected president of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving until March 2001. In addition, he was the head of delegation of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Federation during the International Brčko Arbitration process that resulted in creation of the Brčko District in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Established in October 2004 in Sarajevo, SSST is the first private University in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is dedicated to providing high quality, internationally competitive education and up-to-date programs.

In October 2012, Provost Joan Lorden, Deans Mary Lynne Calhoun and Tom Reynolds, Associate Dean Christie Amato and Professor Mirsad Hadzikadic visited Sarajevo to learn more about SSST and to explore possible educational and research relationships between our two Universities.

The upcoming visit by Ganić and his academic team is an outcome of the trip.
