University asks city to study traffic at CRI entrance

University leaders have contacted the Charlotte Department of Transportation to request a study aimed at increasing safety measures for pedestrian/vehicular traffic near the Charlotte Research Institute (CRI) entrance to campus off N. Tryon Street.

Expansion of the CRI portion of campus has resulted in an increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic of faculty, staff and students in this area. Recently, a faculty member was struck and injured while navigating the crosswalk across N. Tryon Street.

“N. Tryon Street is a high speed thoroughfare, and drivers and pedestrians share a level of responsibility. As this situation affects members of the campus community, the University is requesting the city investigate how to make this intersection as safe as possible,” said Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities management.
