Drum line to liven Charlotte 49ers football experience

Friday, May 31, 2013

The Charlotte 49ers football team will be "marching" toward the end zone to the beat of its own drums this fall. While the football program won't initially feature a full marching band, thanks to generous gifts from alumni, UNC Charlotte will debut the 49er drum line, a battery of percussion players who will take to McColl-Richardson Field to help keep the Niner Nation pumped up.

Led by a $25,000 gift from outgoing Board of Trustee chair and UNC Charlotte alumnus Gene Johnson (’73), the past presidents of the Alumni Association have teamed up to raise the initial $100,000 for the University and Music Department.

All UNC Charlotte students --even those without marching percussion experience – are encouraged to audition for the line. For more information, contact James Grymes in the Music Department at jagrymes@uncc.edu.
